Yoga Frequently Asked Questions:
Can beginners attend Love Yoga Flow classes?
Yes. We have created an environment in which all levels and abilities can practice yoga. We recommend beginners start with one of our beginner friendly classes on our current class schedule. For those who have practiced yoga before or want to go deeper with the practice, we recommend exploring whatever classes you’d like to. Each individual is encouraged to feel out what class(es) may be best for them.
But I’m not flexible!
Then yoga is definitely for you. Flexibility is something yoga gives you; you don’t have to be flexible to start a yoga practice. When you sit a lot during the work day, or when you’re engaging in repetitive motion activities (running, biking, etc.), you’re shortening your muscles. Yoga allows you to lengthen and expand, and release toxins that build up during these activities. The ultimate benefit of yoga – to harmoniously unite body, mind and spirit – can be experienced regardless of whether you’re able to touch your toes.
How often should I practice yoga?
To experience the full benefits in body, mind, and spirit we recommend practicing as many as six days per week. With repetition and dedication, you will see profound results. Benefits will still be felt if you can practice less, but will come a bit slower, so patience is a must.
What are some of the benefits of yoga?
There are countless benefits to Love Yoga Flow classes; increase in flexibility, strength, weight loss, handling life’s stresses with ease, better sleep and improved muscle recovery, happiness, joy, peace, and reduced aches & pains to name a few (and meeting great people!). A regular practice can reduce the symptoms of many chronic diseases (e.g. arthritis, diabetes, and thyroid disorders).
Is yoga a cardiovascular workout?
No matter what your level of fitness, you will find Love Yoga Flow classes not only challenging, but powerful workouts that go beyond just a traditional workout. All postures combine flexibility, strength, and balance to work the entire body and positively affect the mind & spirit. Research shows that yoga improves lung endurance, strength, and aerobic capacity just to name a few of the hundreds of benefits.
When can I expect to see progress in my yoga practice?
The more you practice, the quicker you’ll notice results. Remember that you will respond to yoga, based on different factors including age, physical condition, etc. What is far more important than measuring “progress” is to simply embrace where your practice is, and let go of self-imposed “goals.” Yoga is truly a life-long practice, one that gives so many physical, mental, and spiritual benefits so enjoy the ride.
What should I wear to yoga class? What should I bring?
Please bring a bottle of water and a mat if you have one. Any clothes that you can bend and move in comfortably, such as workout attire, is recommended. Please arrive to the studio about 10 minutes before your first class to meet your instructor and relax onto your mat. Come with an open mind and be prepared to feel wonderful.
My son/daughter would like to attend class with me. Is this ok?
If your child is between 12 – 18, they may attend class with you or another adult. If your child is under 12, we don’t typically recommend that they attend an adult class, but this is up to individual studio manager. Either way you’ll register them for the class and pay the drop-in fee.
