Tai Chi & Qi Gong – Start off your week with the graceful flowing movements and breathing of Tai Chi and stress relieving, cleansing flow of Qi Gong!

T’ai Chi Chuan (or Taijiquan) means Supreme Ultimate Fist. It was a very effective form of Chinese martial arts practiced and taught within families and used for
self-defense. Each family had its own style. Only since the mid 20th Century was it taught outside of the the families and to Westerners. Today Yang Family style is
probably the most widely practiced.
Today it is rarely learned or used for self defense.
Rather, it is practiced as a form of relaxation and moving meditation and for its many health benefits.

Qigong (Chi Gong) has been documented as health exercises for somewhere between 5,000 and 7,000 years as part of the Chinese medicine system. It was first named Qigong in the early 1900’s. Chi or Qi means vital life force energy. Gong means work or developing or perfecting. Qigong exercises combine slow intentional movement with breathing. One way of conceptualizing T’ai Chi and Qigong is that if Qigong is music, then T’ai Chi is a symphony. There are probably thousand of sets of Qigong that have been developed through the centuries.
